The first pillar “Well Being and Sustainability” refers to the 8th Century when a Hindhu priest, Rsi Marhandya a myriad of medicinal herbs and plants. The area where he found these medicinal plants was named ‘”ubad” or medicine in Balinese (later the area became Ubud).
The second pillar, which is “Luxury and Opulence” refers to the 15th -17th century when the Majapahit Kingdom was disintegrating and many nobles flocked to Ubud and established themselves as lords or aristocratic families.
Finally, the third pillar,“ Center of Art and Culture” refers to the period in the 1930s under the guidance of Cokorde Gede Agung Sukawati, when he welcomed foreign artists to Ubud, which transformed Ubud into an art and cultural center of Bali.
